Who Are We?
The Wilderness Scouts is a club for girls who are interested in God's creation and who want to study and explore it while getting to know God and becoming virtuous women like Proverbs 31 talks about. We focus on five areas; adventuring outdoors, homesteading, living naturally in health, being disciples of our Creator Jesus Christ, and fellowship.
Have you ever compared life to a video game? Just like in a video game, you can actually walk around, interact with your environment, and accomplish missions. But then you realize, wow, this life God gave us and this world he put us on are so much more interactive than any of the best virtual games out there! And its actually reality, not just something inside a bunch of wires, and so we can accomplish purposeful missions! Nature is a wonderful place to have fun exploring, go on adventures with friends, camp out, or to relax, think about God, and marvel at His works.
God created humans, and put us on an earth that is so rich in nutritious food, energy, and other resources. The idea of "living off the land" is so cool, but for most of us it wouldn't really fit into our lives. But there are actually many simple ways that we can use the earth God has given us. We can become more productive, self-sufficient, and physically and emotionally healthy by trying new projects with the resources God has given us. We can then find ways to use these skills and knowledge to help our families and other people.
Our meetings include hands-on lessons or activities, a Scriptural quest and challenge, games, and refreshments. We also go on adventure trips and fun outings.
We currently have one chapter in Taylors, SC. We meet the first Monday of each month at 3:00 pm, often at Paris Mountain State Park. We are looking at starting a chapter in Campobello, SC.

Why This Name?
What do you think of when you think of the word "Wilderness"? It is an interesting word because it can mean different things, depending on the way you look at it.
Some people think it means anything that is uncivilized, vast, bewildering, perilous, or even worthless for mankind. Others think of the word as meaning an area on the earth or in life that is unexplored, unmapped, and possibly dangerous. Then there are those who right away picture a beautiful landscape, a perfect place to hike, think, and enjoy nature.
The word "Scout" means someone who explores a place or area to obtain information, who finds by seeking or searching. It is also the idea of going out ahead of others to search and find a good way to travel through treacherous terrain to the destination.
There are many wildernesses in life that must be scouted out. First, there is a spiritual wilderness. This world is full of sin, lies, foolishness, and fake religion. Will you take the world's wide road or God's narrow path? We need God's Word, our trustworthy map, to follow God's path into His kingdom of light, through Jesus Christ our Savior and example.
Another wilderness today is the wilderness of health and illness. Why are so many Americans, despite our top-notch medical technology, going through life suffering from so many horrible ailments? Does God want us to suffer? Could it be that what we are eating and how we are living are totally different from what God meant for us? We're scouting out answers to these questions. Will you follow the dead-end path of unnatural living, or find another better one?
Our future in America is a rather uncertain one, considering many agendas going on in our country and around the world. Are you prepared to find your way through a wilderness of, for instance, economic collapse? We are scouting out ways to be self-sufficient as we learn how to use the natural resources all around us.
In our personal lives we have wildernesses too, and we need each other. We can comfort one another in hard times, encourage one another to love and to do good, and grow together towards Christ's character. Wilderness Scouts is a great way to make friends and work together toward our goals.
And finally, there are the literal wildernesses; the woods, the mountains, rivers and meadows, which seem so pleasurable compared to the dangers in the other wildernesses. But even here, we need skills and wisdom. For example, we need to know how to avoid poison ivy, be prepared for first aid, be able to make shelters, know which plants are edible and which are poisonous, etc. This wilderness is like a parable of the others. There are dangers, challenges, and discomforts, but there are wonderful adventures and beautiful things waiting for us.
Would you dare to leave the wide road and discover a path through the wilderness?
